MIAMI MONTHLY MEETING HOSTING THE BLACK AMERICAN JOURNEY

Miami Monthly Meeting is pleased to welcome Dr. J Lan Ye to the historic White Brick Meeting House for a musical performance on June 9th, 2024.
Dr. J is a long-time member of the Religious Society of Friends-she is a longtime former member of Cleveland Friends Meeting.
She is both a composer and performer, and has a long history of music performance, including Director of Music at multiple universities prior to her retirement.
Her presentation includes three parts of music and lecture:
1. The Spirituals (indigenous art songs) of the 18th and 19th centuries manifested themselves within the fiber of American music and became the core sound of America.
2. The Black classical art songs of the Harlem Renaissance (the 1920s-1930s) woven together the Black indigenous art music with European type art music styles that paved the way for a sound
that encompassed a mixture like a rich American music gumbo.
3. The dramatic Black songs of the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960s, which defined the entire pallet and spectrum of the American music landscape, fusing classical and non classical forms and
strengthening American music across the board.
The performance will be free to all attendees, taking place at 12:30pm on June 9th at the White Brick Meetinghouse, 169 S. Fourth Street, Waynesville, Ohio.

The Open House was held on October 14 and 15th, 10am to 6pm.
-There was a Q & A Presentation on Quakers in Waynesville & the Story of the White Brick Meetinghouse at 12:00pm and 3pm on Saturday, and at 12:00pm on Sunday.
-Guests were welcomed to the White Brick Meetinghouse all of the Sauerkraut Festival weekend.
-Miami Monthly Meeting is a spiritual community of Friends (Quakers) in Waynesville, Ohio. Our worship is conducted in the Unprorammed (Hicksite) tradition of Friends in the White Brick Meetinghouse,
listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1811, it is the oldest house of worship in continuous use west of the Allegheny Mountains.
2023 WORSHIP AND PICNIC AT BUTTERWORTH FARM

Miami Monthly Meeting Friends gathered at Butterworth Farm for worship, lunch, and all-around-good-time-in-the country day. on Sunday, July 9 at beginning at 11am.
There was a good crowd, including guests and Friends from around the Yearly Meeting. Meeting for Worship was followed by good food and fellowship, and outdoor activities.

Dr. Bob Finley, a long term member and attender of Miami Monthly Meeting, passed away July 15, 2022. His Memorial Meeting of Remembrance was March 18, 2023 in the White Brick Meetinghouse. Please read his

We had a nice Christmas program this morning with yummy treats! Eula, Peg, Joy and I enjoyed the food while Lonny and Travis looked on!
Some Bible verses and a poem were read and we enjoyed sharing our Christmas memories.
SELZER-COOK WEDDING, OCTOBER 29

Becky, daughter of Kirk and Linda Selzer of Middletown, MD married Travis, son of Milton and Sue Cook, on October 29th, 2022 at the Miami Monthly Meeting in
Waynesville, Ohio. It was a ceremony held in the Quaker tradition, and brought together many friends and family from all across the country. They currently
reside in Chicago with their beloved dog, Mr. Robot.
MIAMI FRIENDS GRAVEYARD MEMORIAL

Miami Monthly Meeting held a brief memorial following Meeting for Worship on First Day (Sunday) June 12, 2022.
Miami Friends and Orthodox Friends attended the Meeting for Worship and the memorial. A carry-in (pot luck) lunch followed in the Red Brick Meeting House.
