Latest news : new borehole

Hlekweni has been able to arrange for a new borehole on the farm, which will provide water for a substantial increase in agricultural activities, and secure the supply to staff, tenants and trainees.

The borehole was sunk in March by Drillwell, and is double cased to 72m. German Development Service (DED) is providing funds to connect it. We are grateful to Racetin (UK), David Knox (PMB, South Africa) and AFSC (American Friends Service Committee) for purchase of the submersible pump and related costs.

This borehole replaces a previous main borehole on Hlekweni property, which collapsed in 2003. There are two smaller boreholes on site, but this one feeds a reservoir which is the farm's main gravity-fed supply of water.
