Fundraising to save Sekai's vision

Christmas appeal

Friends of Hlekweni responded very quickly and generously to an appeal to save the sight of Sekai Mupora, a young woman known to the director through the work of Hlekweni.

In just over a week R50,000 ($6,849) was raised for an eye operation to reattach a damaged and hanging retina, and for attendant costs of traveling to South Africa.

Owing to referral delays it was too late to consider operating on one eye but the good news is that Sekai can now see well from the operated eye and progress is continuing.

She is undergoing further tests for osteo-militus (complicated by childhood polio and diabetes) and amputation below the knee has been recommended.

She is considering her options, and is most grateful to all who donated.
