Current focus: -wants to try drafting a statement with others to challenge/inspire Friends to reflect more on these issues and draft similar statements in their own meetings.
-part of a Quaker men's group in which discussion frequently turns to issues of sexuality, gender and our own intimate relationships/marriages.
-working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in psychiatry at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. I am also teaching, writing and leading retreats for Friends on a variety of subjects from the spiritual roots of our testimonies and concerns to opening ourselves to becoming more dependent on God..

Past efforts:-helped organize a small group of Friends in 2001 to think/wrestle/pray together on these issues, which contributed to beginning this website.
-has attended several interest groups at FGC gathering on these issues.
-in late 1980s, part of a working group of Friends Institute (the young adult group of Philadelphia YM) that was seeking to write a kind of testimony for Friends on sexuality.
-was in a Movement for New Society collective called Men Against Patriarchy in the mid-1970s that wrote an antisexist manifesto entitled "Understanding and Fighting Sexism: A Call to Men" and organized workshops for men.

Background: -is a masters-prepared nurse and family therapist;
-has worked as a music editor, songleader, retreat leader. (See www.quakersong.org)
-has a passion for helping Friends recapture a sense of radical corporate faithfulness - to be once again a beloved community led by the inward voice of Christ.

Current Focus: -Providing education for older adults and training for professionals in long-term care homes.

Past Efforts: -workshops on spirituality and sexuality at FGC since 1980;
-also workshops at NEYM, Powell House, Pendle Hill.

Background: -President, Consortium on Sexuality and Aging.
-Sexuality Educator since the 1960s.
-Director of Education at Planned Parenthood for 13 years.
-Wrote "Some Quaker Perspectives on Sexuality," in Kenworthy, Leonard. Friends Face the World.

Betsy Neale

Current focus: -conducts workshops for parents on talking to their children about sex.

Past efforts: -in 1990, helped write the Ohio Valley Yearly Meeting Guide for Discussions on Sexuality
-in late 1980s, worked in her meeting on a same gender marriage minute
-co-led a workshop at the FGC Gathering on helping monthly meetings look at sexuality issues
-board member and former Executive Director, KY Teen Pregnancy Coalition
-doctoral research and dissertation on adolescent girls' sexuality
-has served as a patient educator at a Planned Parenthood clinic
-has worked as a counselor at an abortion clinic
-distributed contraceptive information to women at her college in the late 1960s

Background: -strong interest in justice issues involving sexuality and gender
-activist for women's rights and the rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgendered persons
-concerned about policies that block comprehensive sexuality education and reproductive health services
