GASLAND

Friday, March 18, 2011

7:00 p.m. Free Screening; 9:00 p.m. Panel Discussion

Room 199, Science Center, Swarthmore College

Third Annual Community Forum of the Swarthmore Friends

Peace and Social Concerns Committee

Panelists:

  • Thurm Brendlinger, Clean Air Council

  • Bruce Grant, Ecology Professor, Widener University

  • Carr Everbach, Professor of Environmental Engineering and Sustainability Committee, Co-Chair, Swarthmore College

There will be a free screening of the film, GASLAND on Friday, March 18, at Swarthmore College.  GASLAND is an examination of the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") as a method of natural gas extraction.  GASLAND compellingly describes the devastating impacts of this nationwide practice, which is underway in areas of Pennsylvania and threatens our drinking water.  The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion focusing on environmental and economic realities, alternative energy, and trust in government. Grounded in concerns about integrity, stewardship, and community, we seek together responsible ways to meet our needs as consumers. Free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served.
