On October 2, 1996, Peaceweb asked 138 Canadian Quakers with e-mail addresses the following question:
"What is your mental map of Quebec? What are the images, the memories, the hopes, the fears you have when you think of Quebec? Alternatively, what are your images of Canada?'"
Each participant was told that their contribution - their images of Quebec or of Canada - should be under 200 words, and should be personal - not a political speech, a newspaper editorial, nor their ideas for new laws or constitutions.
