Churches Are Burning!

The following article was printed in the New York Times on January 29th, 1998. This brings the number of arson-burned churches to 153. Arson Hits Third Church In Rural Pennsylvania SOMERSET, Pa., Jan. 28 (AP) -- A fire took minutes to destroy the 74-year-old Pike Run Church of the Brethren early today, and the authorities said the blaze was deliberately set. The Pike Run church was the third rural church burned by an arsonist in southwestern Pennsylvania in a week. State troopers and Federal investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms met today to look for connections among the fires. All three churches had predominantly white congregations.
