Freecycle and Related Community Cooperation

Local Freecycle Lists:

Other Community Cooperation:

Scranton Wilkes Barre Traders: This is a barter site. Perhaps you need something and can offer something in return rather than money. An example would be the following: "Needed: Minor car repair, can offer 3 yummy chocolate cakes in return." Okay, it's just an example--you don't have to laugh at me!

Scranton Wilkes Barre Tag Sale: Here you offer any items for sale. This is like your own neighborhood online yard sale! It's great!

NEPA CheapCycle: This is another local buy-and-sell site, maintained by different people than the Tag Sale list owners.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Area Craigslist: Local classifieds and forums - community moderated, and largely free

Angel Help For PA: A site to get help with everyday needs and to help others all across the state of Pennsylvania

Christmas Wishes: to give and recieve help with the holiday season. Open for the holidays from September 1st till January 15th; after January 15th, this becomes a Sample Freebie list.

Scranton Wilkes Barre Pet Adoptions
: Where to find a forever home or look for a forever friend. Please check out all adoptions personally before giving or accepting a pet.

Scranton Bulletin Board: This site is dedicated to chit-chat, local happenings, questions and anything else that may be happening in Scranton and the surrounding areas.

What is Freecycling?

Local freecyclers post offers for things they don't want anymore, offering them for free to neighbors who can use them. Arrangements are then made privately for the goods to be moved to their new home, usually when the recipient picks them up at a pre-arranged time and place. It's an environmentally and socially sound alternative to sending usable items to the landfills.

"The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,524 groups with 5,348,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free."

If you don't live in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, you can still freecycle! Visit www.freecycle.org to find your local freecycle group.
