[The Lord of Silence: general index]

11    Silence and Reality

Silence is a cure for noise, useless chatter, mental confusion, dangerous discussions and nervous excitement.

Silence is also an effective way of exploring behind the lying masks of people, parties, and religions that proclaim excellent goals and don't live by them.

And again: silence is a tool for looking at the inside of every value to ascertain if it is genuine or hides the false and the empty.

Silence is the litmus paper that reacts to lies and measures the truth in our impulses, thoughts, and plans - and naturally that of others as well.

It is the signpost that shows us the way to a profoundly different reality which its opposite, chatter, ignores and hides.

Milan, 15 I 1988

Moreover when the Lord sent me forth into the world, he forbade me to put off my hat to any, high or low.

Be patterns, be examples in all countries, places, islands, nations, wherever you come, that your carriage and life may preach among all sorts of people, and to them; and you will come to walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in every one.

George Fox, Journal.
