2001 Summer Camps

Ages 6 to 8

9AM-3PM

$155 per week


All Kidspace camps take place at the main campus of Carolina Friends School in the Lower School There is a play area with climbing objects, sand piles, a small log building, slides, a basketball court, and a garden area with places to explore. Indoor activities take place in a large central room with easy access to outdoors.

Activities revolve around a weekly theme (See below). As part of these themes, there are art projects, cooking, dancing, music, readings, field trips, and outdoor exploration. Three mornings a week, campers go to Camp New Hope for swimming. Free time is set aside during the day for playground activities and time to socialize with new or old friends.

Staff: Leaders include Carolina Friends School teachers and teachers from surrounding schools. Each group has a maximum of 16 campers with 1 teachers and 1 assistant.

Extended Day: There is a separate weekly fee. Campers have activities indoors/outdoors (1-10 ratio.) There are four plans: Early Morning (8:00 drop off): $18 /week 4:00 Extended (pick up 4:00): $20 /week 5:30 Extended (w/snack): $45 /week AM & PM til 5:30 $55/week

Registration Fees: Camp fees paid in full at registration. Campers enrolled in multiple workshops/camps may pay in installments (50% at enrollment; 50% by May 1). Final payments due May 1.  Session 1:

June 18 - 22

 Art Attack: Yikes, we're covered in paint, mom and dad, but we're having a ball. We'll make masks, do face paint, create sculptures and mobiles with Donovan.

 Session 2:

June 25 - 29

Call for Availability

 Garden Art: So where do the gnomes in your garden live? We'll make gnome houses, wind chimes, toad hiding places, bird feeders, and decorate pots and paint rocks as we celebrate the "secret" and not so secret garden.

 Session 3

July 2 - 6

Wait list only

Krafty Kreations: Paint a mural, learn about collages, make your own paper, create sculptures, work with beads and paint in this explosive week of creative exploration.

July 9 - 13

 Kitchen Science: Oh, no, there's green slime in the kitchen and a volcano erupting on the table...it's kitchen science time. Even the jello looks threatening!

 Session 5:

July 16 - 20

 Espanol Mola:Come and explore the Spanish culture with Celi, a native speaker from Madrid. Celi will take you on a "world wind" tour of Spain and Mexico. Grab your passports!

 Session 6:

July 23 - 27

 Riding the Rapids of Literature: We dedicate this week to literature! We pick a story each day that will be our theme for activities, including songs, murals, dance, skits, and cooking!

 Session 7:

July 30 - Aug 3

 All About ME: Celebrate yourself! We'll do drawings, create clay figures, make up a scrapbook, bring in our pets, share our hobbies and collections. It's all about YOU! (or if you say it, "All About Me!")

Session 8:

August 6 - 10 

 Wait list only

 Drama Daze: Who doesn't like a good story & who doesn't like acting out sometimes. We'll gather together to stage our own productions for each other in this final camp week.

Children may be enrolled in one or more sessions. Many campers mix their summer experience with workshops and/or KidSpace sessions.

That camp your child wanted says "Wait list only" - What to do???  By adding your child's name to the wait list, good things can happen.  If the wait list becomes long enough, we will consider opening another section of a particular camp. Also, people's plans do change, and, as a result, we often have openings that occur.  As soon as an opening develops, we will contact you by email or phone.  In order to be put on the wait list, please send in a registration form; we will enter your child on the wait list and inform you of your child's status.
