WELCOME!
Agate Passage Friends Meeting is a silent Quaker Meeting centered on
Bainbridge Island across Puget Sound from Seattle, Washington.
Agate Passage Friends began in
1967 and originally met in homes in the North Kitsap region. Since 1995
the group has met on Bainbridge Island. It is dedicated to
sustaining traditional Quaker values and practices, and the Meeting
includes those of many spiritual paths united in the Quaker belief that
"there is that of God" in every one.
The Meeting welcomes visitors warmly to share
with us in seeking the richness of receptive silence. The silent
hour is a time of waiting, of setting aside our usual patterns
of thought, our analyzing, and our worrying. We wait patiently,
but with unwavering attention, for a new kind of consciousness.
Quakers have traditionally called this the Light
The Light may come as a new insight with regard to oneself or
may lead people to feel that they have spiritual insights that
would help the Meeting. Any individual may try to express these
ideas briefly and clearly. After vocal ministry, the group
should have ample time to sink back into silent waiting before
the silence again is broken, if at all, during the rest of the
Meeting. There is also the ministry of listening, of hearing
behind the words that are spoken, of holding those words up to
the Light, to know that of God in the speaker. While vocal
ministry is of great value, some of our richest spiritual
experiences come in completely silent Meetings.
Out of sitting still in the Light have come Quaker Testimonies
for Peace, Simplicity, Equality, and Community. Through these
Testimonies, Quakers have become actively involved in social
concerns such as prison reform, human rights, education and
peace.
Should you care to stay after Meeting for fellowship, we will be
glad to have the chance to get to know you and try to answer any
questions you may have.
Meetings
for Worship are held weekly on Sunday at 10
a.m. at Seabold Community
Center on Bainbridge Island.
A fellowship period follows our silent meeting from 11 AM
'til Noon. Please see our
Meeting
Schedule.
