Youth Coordinator Position
On December 7, a meeting was held on the proposal in the yearly meeting to create a paid position for a youth coordinator to develop programs for the youth of Pacific Yearly Meeting (PYM). This Yearly Meeting employee would be responsible for helping youth maintain connections and a sense of community throughout the year through arranging gatherings both between and just prior to Yearly Meeting sessions, as well as working with the Junior Yearly Meeting committee to plan and support the Yearly Meeting session.
Members of the Youth Coordinator Ad Hoc Committee of PYM's Ministry and Oversight Committee were scheduled but unable to attend. Instead, they forwarded the following queries for discussion.
1. Does PYM need a person to coordinate youth activities year-round?
2. How could a full-time or 3/4-time youth coordinator facilitate your [monthly] meeting's desire to have teens active in your meeting?
3. What age group would the Y.C. focus on?
4. What should be in the Y.C. job description?
5. What should be in the hiring oversight and firing process?
6. How much information do you want from Ministry and Oversight in order to approve a Y.C. position?
7. How much are we willing to pay for salary and benefits and travel expenses for the Y.C.
8. Are we willing to increase our assessments? How much?
9. Are there other sources of income-grants and donations?
The notes for the meeting were forwarded to Care of Meeting Committee for further consideration.
A position description and details on the proposal are available on the meeting website.
On Thursday, February 12, at 7:30 P.M. Berkeley and Strawberry Creek Meetings will hold a listening meeting on the subject of the proposed Pacific Yearly Meeting Youth Coordinator position at the Berkeley Meetinghouse. Friends are encouraged to attend this meeting to share their hopes, expectations and concerns about this position. A report will be brought to Representative Committee Meeting in March.
