Peace and Social Concerns Committee

living in peace and harmony with man and nature

Peace and Social Concerns Committee (PSCC) mission:

To consider issues of peace, social justice, and the environment within the local community and the greater world, responding to Radnor Monthly Meeting (RMM) member and attender initiatives with support and facility.

The duties of the committee are:

  • Maintain a list of interests and concerns that the Meeting has identified as important and wishes to support
  • Provide status of these projects to the Meeting at the monthly Meeting for Business
  • Facilitate and support projects undertaken in the light of the Meeting which are in accordance with the Peace Testimony
  • Communicate with similar committees in other organizations
  • Educate the Meeting on topics of concern to members and Friends at large
  • Alert the meeting to opportunities of support, action, participation and vigil
  • Conjoin with other committees within the Meeting in cooperative activities which promote peace, social justice, and care of the environment.

The PSCC meets to advance the testimonies toward peace and social responsibility, which RMM members and attenders, including Peace Committee members, bring to the committee's attention. It does this by advising the Meeting on how to assist Friends with such projects. The committee serves the Meeting in an advisory capacity rather than a directive one by collecting information, presenting information to the meeting, and facilitating projects undertaken by members and attenders of RMM.

Members and attenders of RMM who are spiritually led to carry out projects or services should contact the PSCC for assistance in developing the planned activity and for soliciting the sponsorship of the Meeting. The committee will examine the merits and implications with regard to peace and social justice of each concern brought to our attention. The committee shall advise upon the compatibility of the project with Quakerly concerns and comment upon the logistical feasibility of the project with regard to participation by members and attenders of RMM.
