QCEA
aims to inspire reflection and debate on these questions and more
in order to explore the connections between the spiritual and ethical
values of Quakerism and the ‘European values’ which
provide a base for European governance.
The
European Union is currently facing the twin challenges of enlargement
and globalisation. The EU has to change to meet these challenges
and in addition has to evolve to meet the expectations and demands
of its citizens. The current debate on the Future of Europe aims
to engage citizens across Europe in order to base changes on the
values and needs of citizens. QCEA is running this project to inform
Quakers about the key issues, find out what Quakers think and make
a positive Quaker contribution to the debate underway in the European
institutions.
With
these aims we are running seminars across Europe. So far successful
seminars have been held in six different European countries, involving
Quakers of 17 nationalities. Further seminars are planned for the
summer and autumn. There will be a conference in October and the
feedback from the seminars, the conference and the written materials
that have been produced, will be used to produce a publication provisionally
entitled ‘A Quaker View of Europe’.
We
want to know what YOU think about these issues. Please browse this
section of the website to find out more information about the issues,
read what other Quakers have said, and find out about the events
that are planned.
