[The Lord of Silence: general index]

15    Submerged in Silence

If you seek peace among men,
separate from each other and God,
you will not find it.
Try
losing yourself in silence,
amid the green of fields
and the severe grey of hills;
and perhaps, in a long inner voyage,
you will find it.
At once free
astonished and calm,
in the intimate deep
loss of self in God,
you will be
completely true.
Alive
safe
whole
you will return among men,
no longer at war with yourself,
without the shadows and illusions
of pain and death,
because you have seen and accepted
the quiet renewal of Nature,
divinely ordained,
reflected in yourself.

Livorno, Montenero, 16 V 1989
