Dear Jean Chretien:

Reflecting our traditional Quaker Peace Testimony, Canadian Friends Service Committee is appalled at the NATO bombing of Serbia. We strongly urge the Canadian government to withdraw its forces, and NATO immediately to cease these atrocious and illegal activities. The bombing has failed to protect a single life in Kosova. The number of refugees and displaced persons has escalated since the bombing started.

This initiative of NATO further undermines the role of the United Nations. Instead of bombing, we urge the Canadian government to use its diplomatic influence at the United Nations to bring about a cease fire by all parties to the dispute. Only an end to the use of armed force by all concerned will ensure a just solution to the ethnic conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.

Sincerely,

Carol Dixon, clerk
