The Ministry of Mediation: Loving Responses to Meeting Conflict Friends in all walks of life often have a responsibility to help others work through their conflicts. The Ministry of Mediation Institute is designed to equip Friends with skills necessary to deal effectively with interpersonal, meeting and other forms of group conflict. The five-day institute also includes a component on meeting intervention and consultation.

Powell House, the conference center for New York Yearly Meeting, will be offering a week-long institute August 22-27 in mediation skills for Friends. Academic credit is available from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, IN. The facilitator, Richard Blackburn, is the director of the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center. As the Midwest affiliate of the Mennonite Conciliation Service, LMPC equips others to be ministers of reconciliation in daily life. Richard Blackburn has led hundreds of workshops on conflict resolution and mediation skills, and serves as a mediator and consultant for individuals, churches, schools and other organizations.

The Indiana University Bloomington School of Education is holding a conference called Positive Approaches to Violence Prevention: Peacebuilding in Schools and Communities August 13-15. For more information contact Katrina Daytner at [email protected].

The Western Christian Peacemaking Conference is sponsored by George Fox University, New Call to Peacemaking and groups representing the historic Peace Churches (Mennonites, Church of the Brethren and Friends), Friends World Committee for Consultation, and On Earth Peace Assembly of the Church of the Brethren. The Conference will bring participants into a rich mix of the latest practical experiments in peacemaking. There will be time for attenders to share what is working for them and what they need to fulfill their callings. There will be a special emphasis on peacemakers from Central America.
