Lend a Helping HandThe Friends International Library committee thanks all of you for your continued interest and support for helping to generate Power of Goodness for the world’s young people. The long-range vision of the Friends International Library (FIL) committee includes many versions in many languages of Power of Goodness for countries in many parts of the world where the messages in the stories will be a force for reconciliation and peace. There are many ways you can help further the Power of Goodness project. Some are practical and some are financial. Both are needed to insure future versions of the story collection. We truly appreciate any and all forms of participation.Help with Covering CostsThe POG project has already published a first edition of Power of Goodness. Funds are needed now for printing a second, expanded edition. Recently the project was given $80,000 from the US Institute of Peace which received 518 applications and made only 25 awards. Other income has come from generous individuals and organizations. Unfortunately printing prices have escalated dramatically. Printed in Chechnya, the book costs will be $6.90 per copy. There is sufficient funding from the USIP grant to produce about 3,500 copies. However, there is a need for a minimum of between 4,500 and 6,000 copies throughout the Chechen school system. An additional $7,000 will allow 4,500 copies to be printed and distributed. Presently, our highest priority is raising funds for the printing of at least 4,500 copies of Power of Goodness and the accompanying teachers manual for the young people in schools in Chechnya. Additional copies will help reach the 214,000 children in Chechnya. Help with the Story PoolThe FIL committee has begun to create a pool of inspiring stories from around the globe that exemplify nonviolence and reconciliation. Do you know such a story? Pass it along to us--whether already fully written or just an idea or an experience or relationship. We can help you research and develop the story into final form for possible use in a new edition. Help with Youth IllustrationsPlease help us locate young people ages six to twenty from all parts of the world to create illustrations for new stories. It will be an invaluable contribution if you put us in touch with individual youth or schools that will have an interest in helping with this. Make your check out to:
